Four buses set on fire in Natore, Naogaon

Unidentified people set four buses on fire in Natore and Naogaon on early Monday and Sunday night during the ongoing 48-hour blockade called by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies in the ongoing movement.

Uruly people set three buses on fire in Baraigram upazila of Natore on early Monday.

Local people said that some unruly people set the buses of ‘GM Travels Paribahan’ — parked at a CNG refuelling station in Bonpara area under the upazila — on fire at about 4:45am.

Being informed, a firefighting unit from Bonpara station rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control immediately.

Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bonapra Highway Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying the firefighters with the help of police doused the fire.

Miscreants set a stationary bus on fire in Mohadevpur upazila of Naogaon district on Sunday night.

Local people said that some unruly people set the bus of Rahi Travels on fire at about 11:30pm.

Being informed, a firefighting unit from Mohadevpur station rushed to the spot and doused the flame, said the fire station’s team leader Ashraful Rahman, adding that 50 per cent of the bus got burnt.

Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mohadevpur Police Station, said that they arrested two BNP activists in this connection.

The arrested were — Sujauzzaman Raju, 55, president of Ward No 1 under Mohadevpur union, and activist Ataur Rahaman Ata, he said.

Legal actions would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
