A Dhaka-bound commuter train of the Bangladesh Railway was set on fire at Tangail Railway Station at Gharinda in the district town early Thursday.
The incident happened at about 3:00am on Thursday when witnesses notices three compartments burning.
Two compartments of the train were completely gutted in the fire, railway and fire service officials said.
Tarikul Islam, station master of Gharinda railway station, said that some miscreants set fire to the Dhaka-bound commuter train.
Being informed, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire control.
An inter-city train, Panchagarah Express, was standing beside the burning train but it was fully saved from fire.
Tangail Fire Service and Civil Defence’s senior station officer Mohammad Idris said that they rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
‘Two compartments near the train engine have been affected. The commuter train was stationed on the Dhaka-bound line at the station.’
