A college student died on Thursday allegedly after transfusion with wrong blood type in his body at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, his family members alleged.
The deceased is Hridoy, 17, from Jhenaidah. He is a student of Government Mahtab Uddin Degree College under Kaliganj in Jhenaidah.
Hridoy’s uncle Monirul Islam said that the victim was injured in a road accident in Jhenaidah on October 17 and was later shifted to DMCH for better treatment.
He said that Hridoy’s blood type was ‘O positive’ but he was given a transfusion with two bags of ‘A positive’ blood.
As a result, both of Hridoy’s kidneys were damaged and it led to his death on Thursday morning, said Monirul.
Hridoy was admitted to DMCH on Monday and died at the hospital’s Neuro-Surgery ward.
The family filed a complaint to the director of the hospital in this connection.
The family claimed that Hridoy died due to negligence in treatment and demanded punishment for those involved in his wrong treatment.
DMCH director Brigadier General Nazmul Haque said that it was a serious allegation and that the matter would be investigated and action would be taken against responsible ones.
