Bangladesh’s bridge and infrastructure sector is set to receive approximately US$3.4 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI), with investment and advisory firm Stallion Capital playing a key role in facilitating the initiative.

The proposed investment involves the construction of the Bhola–Barisal and Shariatpur–Chandpur bridges in collaboration with Japan’s Miyagawa Kensetsu Construction Company. The projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, stimulate economic activity and create new opportunities for trade, industry and employment.

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) has selected Miyagawa Kensetsu Construction Ltd. for the proposed Bhola–Barisal Bridge project. Stallion Capital Ltd. is working as Miyagawa’s local partner in Bangladesh, supporting the project’s investment planning, development and implementation process.

The progress of the Bhola–Barisal Bridge and the broader framework for Japanese investment were discussed at the recently held eighth Japan–Bangladesh Joint Platform Meeting. The meeting emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination among the relevant stakeholders and advancing the projects towards their next stages of development and implementation.
Stakeholders believe that the proposed Bhola–Barisal and Shariatpur–Chandpur bridges could bring significant changes to connectivity across Bangladesh’s southern and central regions. Improved road links are expected to reduce travel time and facilitate the movement of people and goods, while supporting trade, industrial development and employment.

Stallion Capital has been working with Miyagawa Kensetsu for several years to support the Japanese company’s investment and project development activities in Bangladesh. The firm has contributed to investment structuring, project development, strategic advisory services and local stakeholder engagement.

Speaking about the initiative, Stallion Capital Chairman Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed said, “We have been working for many years to expand Japanese investment in Bangladesh’s infrastructure sector. The Bhola–Barisal Bridge is not merely a transport project; it has the potential to create new opportunities for the economy, industry and employment across the southern region.”

He added, “Our partnership with Miyagawa Kensetsu aims to bring international-standard technology, expertise and long-term investment to Bangladesh. We have worked extensively on the project’s financial and investment framework to make it commercially viable and attractive to Japanese stakeholders.”

Ahmed said Bangladesh has considerable potential to attract foreign investment in large-scale infrastructure projects.
“With appropriate policy support and effective partnerships, Bangladesh can attract significantly greater investment not only from Japan but also from other international markets,” he said.

According to Stallion Capital, the projects could strengthen the economic integration of Bangladesh’s southern region with the wider national economy. Over the long term, the proposed bridges are expected to support regional development, improve productivity and contribute to national economic growth.
The initiatives could also enhance Bangladesh’s capacity to attract foreign investment in major infrastructure projects and strengthen international investor confidence in the country’s long-term development prospects.
