The Speedboat Owners Association has suspended operation of speedboats on Bhola-Barishal route for three days till November 5, ahead of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s divisional rally slated for November 5.
The movement of speedboats was suspended on Wednesday evening, causing suffering to commuters.
Manjurul Alam, a speedboat owner of Bhola district, said that they had enforced a three-day strike but didn’t say the reason of the strike.
The UNB correspondent found a number of passengers waiting at Bheduria Terminal in Bhola for speedboat.
Tatek Shah, in-charge of Barishal speedboat terminal, said speedboat movement was suspended from Bhola, not from Barishal.
Earlier, three-wheeler drivers in Barishal had called a strike on November 4 and 5 demanding that the authorities concerned should allow three-wheelers to be operated on the highways.
The strike has coincided with the upcoming rally of the BNP while bus owners in the district had announced a similar strike on the same dates.
The rally in Barishal would be the 5th one by the BNP at the divisional level as four others were held in Chattogram, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Rangpur.
