Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance on Thursday said that it would not be possible for the Awami League government to control prices of essential commodities following an open market economy.

The steering committee of the six-party combine at a meeting at the Communist Party of Bangladesh central office expressed dissatisfaction over failures of the government to control prices of essentials even during Ramadan.

The government have failed to control syndicates and hoarders who are responsible for abnormal price hikes of some essential commodities, they said.

They called on the government to introduce mass rationing system across the country from where people could buy essentials at cheaper prices.

They also called on the government to withdraw the increased power price to reduce sufferings of the common people.

Chaired by coordinator of the combine and general secretary of CPB Ruhin Hossain Prince, Socialist Party of Bangladesh general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz, SPB (Marxist) coordinator Masud Rana, Revolutionary Communist League central leader Abdus Satter, Democratic Revolutionary Party central leader Shahidul Islam Sabuj and Samajtantrik Party executive president Abdul Ali attended the meeting.
