Bangladesh national team head coach Russell Domingo has resigned from his post on Tuesday, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus.
‘Yes, he has resigned. He informed us through an email on Tuesday night, ‘ Yunus told to New Age on Wednesday.
BCB had a contract with the South African coach till the 2023 ODI World Cup, which is set to be played in in India in October-November.
Domingo was appointed as the Bangladesh’s head coach back in September 2019 after the BCB parted ways with Steve Rhodes following the Tigers’ eighth-place finish in the first round of the ODI World Cup in England that year.
Domingo resigned just two days after Bangladesh lost the two-match Test series 0-2 against India at home.
The South African had already left for South Africa for the Christmas break following the Dhaka Test, which the Tigers lost by three wickets after instigating hopes of their first-ever Test win over India.
Earlier in August of this year a murmur also took place in the country’s cricket fraternity regarding the exclusion of Domingo as the Tigers head coach on the back of their ODI and T20I series loss against Zimbabwe.
However, although he wasn’t axed at that time but the board removed him from his role in the T20Is appointing Indian Sridharan Sriram as the technical consultant up to the ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia in October-November this year.
