The Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Tuesday permitted the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party to hold it mass rally in Dhaka, scheduled to be held on December 10, at the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan.
A notice of the police authorities on Tuesday said that it would not permit BNP for holding the rally in front of the party office at Naya Paltan since it would cause traffic gridlock and public sufferings.
The main opposition on November 16 sought permission from the DMP authorities to hold their much-talked-about rally in Dhaka in front of the party’s Naya Paltan central office.
But, the ruling Awami League and DMP authorities on several occasions insisted BNP for holding the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
The notice, signed by DMP deputy commissioner for headquarters and administration Abdul Momen, directed the BNP to hold the rally between 12:00 noon and 4:30pm.
Police imposed 26 conditions for the political program.
The conditions include restricting the rally within the boundary of Suhrawardy Udyan, not installing public announcement systems out of the boundary, allowing party leaders and activists at the venue only two hours before beginning the rally, and none will be allowed to join the rally with procession.
