Corruption and inefficient government bureaucracy were top barriers in doing business during 2021, the Centre For Policy Dialogue finds in a new survey.

Some 68 per cent of the respondents complained about high level of corruption as the major problematic factor.

The think-tank took executive opinion of 73 high officials of private companies located in Dhaka, Chattogram, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Faridpur during April-july last year.

Around 67 per cent of the respondents said inefficient bureaucracy is the problematic factor for carrying out business.

Limited access to financing, inadequate infrastructure and policy instability are other major problematic factors, the survey found.

The CPD came up with the findings at a press conference styled “Bangladesh Business Environment; Findings from Entrepreneurs Perception Survey”, which took place at the CPD’s office in Dhaka.

Khondaker Golam Moazzem, research director of the CPD, presented the findings.
