The Detective Branch of police on Wednesday said that Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology student Fardin Noor Parash might have committed suicide.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s additional commissioner (detective branch) Harun-or-Rashid on Wednesday evening said that their investigation found that Fardin might have killed himself.
He said that Fardin was mentally frustrated for his gradual degradation in academic results and could not manage money required for travelling to Spain for attending a debate programme.
He said that they, during their investigation, found no mark of torture in his body and he roamed at places at the night following November 4 alone.
The police officer said that Fardin committed suicide by jumping into the river from Sultana Kamal Bridge.
The DB revelation came while the Rapid Action Battalion was set to hold a briefing over the death on Wednesday evening.
The Detective Branch of police and the Rapid Action Battalion have come up with different information about Fardin’s last active cell phone location, but none of the two has any idea of what actually led to the murder.
The decomposed body of Fardin, 23, was recovered from Sitalakhya in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj on November 7 afternoon, three days after he went missing.
Fardin’s father Kazi Nuruddin informed the police that his son left their Konapara house in Demra on November 4, saying that he had an academic test on the following day.
Fardin’s friend East West University student Amatullah Bushra was placed on remand in police custody in connection with the murder case.
Bushra is still in jail though the investigators said that they didn’t find any evidence suggesting her involvement in the murder.
