Fire service rescuers recovered the bodies of four dredger capsize victims, out of eight ones who went missing after the capsize in the Bay of Bengal near Sandwip channel under Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram on Monday night during cyclone Sitrang, from the bay on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
‘We recovered three bodies on Wednesday morning and one body on Tuesday night. We recovered the body from inside the capsized dredger,’ Mirsharai upazila nirbahi officer Md Minhazur Rahman said.
The identity of the bodies couldn’t be confirmed yet, the UNO said and added that they called the victims’ relatives to identify the bodies.
Fire service recovered four bodies till 10:00am while four others remained missing, said the UNO Minhazur Rahman.
The eight workers who went missing are Shahin, 37, Emam, 22, Tareq, 20, Mahmud, 26, Al Amin, 20, Jakaria, 29, Alam, 35, and Jahid 27, all from Jainkathi area under Sadar upazila in Patuakhali.
The dredger machine belongs to Shaikat Enterprise. It had been excavating sand from the Bay for Mirsharai economic zone, officials said.
