Bangladesh authorities rescued 31 Rohingya people on early Tuesday while they were on their way to Malaysia from Cox’s Bazar using the sea route.

The rescued ones include women and children.

Police said that they rescued a total of 34 people – three Bangladeshis and 31 Rohingyas – from the coast.

They said that they suspected that the three Bangladeshis were among the brokers of the traffickers.

Officials said that the engine-boat that they had been using to reach another engine-boat to go to Malaysia through the Bay of Bengal reportedly capsized near the coast.

They said that the Rohingyas then reached the shore by swimming.

Police said that the Rohingyas were from various Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar.

Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman said that the Rohingya were trying to flee the camps in Ukhia and were heading to Malaysia on Monday night but their boat capsized near the coast.

He said that they were not sure about the number of the people on the engine-boat that capsized.

‘We have been investigation the matter,’ he said.
