Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to providing full cooperation to the United Nations (UN) facts-finding delegation.
He came up with the statement following a meeting with a visiting UN delegation at his secretariat office in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The UN team arrived in Bangladesh on 22 August to investigate human rights violations between 1 July and 15 August centering the students’ quota reform movement.
The three-member delegation was led by Rory Mungoven, Chief of the Asia-Pacific Section of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The other members included Livia Consenza and Alexander James Amir El Jundi, both human rights officers at the OHCHR.
During the meeting, he assured the delegation of Bangladesh’s readiness to provide any necessary assistance.
Additionally, the adviser requested the UN delegation to allow more Bangladeshi personnel from the army, police, and other forces to participate in the UN peacekeeping missions.
He noted that the delegation had expressed high appreciation for the contributions of Bangladeshi soldiers in the peacekeeping operations.
