Home Adviser Brig Gen (Rtd) M Sakhawat Hossain has urged the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to stand firm on the border, emphasising that the era of retreating is over.

“Don’t turn your backs in the border area. Enough is enough,” said the home adviser of the interim government on Tuesday.

He said this while talking to journalists after visiting the BGB members now receiving treatment at the BGB Hospital at its Pilkhana Headquarters this noon.

“Our people are killed in the bordering area while the BGB men are forced to hold flag meetings. And after the meeting, it was said that everything was fine. I told the BGB men not to turn their backs on the border,” he said.

Sakhawat expressed his firm stance following the killing of a Bangladeshi citizen by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) on Shibganj border in Chapainawabganj on Monday.

“Our people are killed entering our territory and later it was said that everything has been settled through the flag meeting. The days are over,” he said.

Claiming that the country’s different law enforcement agencies have been made monsters over the last 15 years, Sakhawat said the people responsible for such intentional activities will be produced before the court.

“They killed many people and destroyed many institutions. These are national forces, not anyone’s personal,” he said.

“Police forces are very penitent. They have been made monsters. We don’t forget those who were engaged in doing so. They must be tried. Just keep patient,” he said.
