Five policemen were suspended on Monday over the incident of snatching away two convicted extremists from police custody in Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court area on Sunday.
The five police officers were suspended for lapse in their duties, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for prosecution Jashim Uddin.
The suspended policemen are — CMM Court inspector for lockup Motiur Rahman, sub-inspector Nahidur Rahman Bhuiyan, assistant sub-inspector Mohiuddin, constable Sharif Hasan and constable Abdus Sattar. The later three were tasked for escorting the extremists to the court and lock
Departmental investigation would be initiated against them also, said Jashim.
Several youths on Sunday afternoon ambushed two policemen in the court area, sprayed chemicals in a police constable’s eyes and snatched away extremists Mainul Islam Shamim and Abu Siddique Sohel.
