Stocks maintain gaining streak

Stocks in Dhaka bourse continued to rise for the third consecutive day today as general investors think that the participation of institutional investors may rise in the market.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), climbed 55 points, or 0.84 per cent, to 6,662 at the end of the day. In the last three days, the index rose 180 points.

Both the DS30, the blue-chip index, and DSES, the shariah based index, went up 14 points and 10 points respectively.

Turnover of the DSE also surged 24 per cent to Tk 754 crore from the previous day’s Tk 605 crore.

At the DSE, 300 stocks advanced, 55 declined and 25 remained unchanged.

BDCOM Online topped the gainers’ list with about a 9.73 per cent rise. IPDC Finance, NRB Commercial Bank, Mozaffar Hossain Spinning Mills, and Eastern Lubricants also saw major gains.

Premier Bank shed the most with a 13 per cent drop. Prime Bank, ICB Islamic Bank, Familytex BD, and Bangladesh Industrial Finance were among the heavy losers.

Beximco Ltd became the most traded stock with shares worth Tk 52 crore changing hands followed by JMI Hospital, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation, IPDC Finance, and Sonali Paper.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rose today. The CASPI, the main index of the CSE, soared 143 points, or 0.73 per cent, to close the day at 19,593.

Of the 292 stocks traded, 192 rose, 82 fell, and 18 did not see any price movement.
