The government has cancelled the official gazette that previously recognised 128 individuals as warriors of the July Uprising after discrepancies were found during verification.
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday.
The ministry said that upon review, it was found that some of those listed in the gazette of wounded participants in the July uprising were neither injured nor directly involved in the movement.
In some cases, multiple gazettes were issued under the same name. Based on the recommendations of the respective district committees, the ministry has cancelled the gazette entries of 21 individuals from Mymensingh division, 27 from Sylhet, 39 from Chattogram, 9 from Khulna, 3 from Rangpur, 14 from Dhaka, 13 from Rajshahi, and 2 from Barishal — totalling 128 individuals.
On 3 August, the ministry issued a notification removing the names of eight individuals from the list of martyrs.
At present, the official number of recognised martyrs stands at 836.
